Biography
Turkish guitarist and composer Behzat Cem GUNENC was born in Ankara. He started his early music education with Ercan Tanis. In 1993 he arranged music videos for Classical Guitar for T.R.T (Turkish National Radio&TV). Behzat Cem GUNENC attended master classes in Switzerland-Italy in 1994 with the scholarship of Italian guitarist Roberto Porroni. In 1998 he studied at Vienna State Conservatory with professor “Heinz Wallish” and in 2000 he studied guitar performance at Graz City Conservatory with professor “Johanne Palier”. Behzat Cem GUNENC performed in many concerts in Graz. In his military service in Kars in 2003 (the very east city of Turkey) he performed in 300 concert with honors certificate.
He performed première performance of worldwide acclaimed composers and performers like Necati GIRAY (cellist and composer), Fazıl SAY (pianist and composer), Ceyhun SAKLAR (guitarist and composer). Behzat Cem GUNENC is the organizer of Istanbul Technical University Guitar Festival.
As well as his guitar training he also graduated from musicology from Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory in 2009.
While preparing his graduation thesis “Analysis of Turkish Guitar Methods” he also has written his own guitar method. This method is called: “Klasik Gitar Çalmak Ister Misiniz?”: “Would You Like to Play Classical Guitar?” was published in 2010. In order to modify his unique technique for this method he trained 700 students as gratis.
As a guitar composer Mr. GUNENC’s guitar compositions are being performed regularly in leading national and international festivals. His composition named “Black Sea Dance No:1” was recorded by Dutch Guitar virtuoso “Esther STEENBERGEN”s CD called “New Repertoire” as a opening track in September 2008.
Mr. GUNENC’s artistic productions have always been won critical acclaim by guitar authorities. Today he is fully occupied with musicology, pedagogy, music composition. He is also very pleased to be in preparation of his 2015 CD Project
